Competition
Hartzell House Piano Competition 2026
The Hartzell House competition is a competition to promote the music of Composer Edmund Hartzell. At the moment it’s exclusively online through video submissions.
Entry itself is free with a purchase of the required qualifying music for both rounds.
The entries will be judged by the composer. If we have a lot of entries we might hire another adjudicator.
1st Prize: £300
2nd Prize: £120
3rd Prize: £80
1st Round:
5-10 Minutes of music.
Must include at least one Bagatelle or Nocturne by Hartzell
Run over allowed of 5 minutes.
Anything under 5 minutes or over 15 minutes (including breaks) will be disqualified.
2nd Round:
10-20 Minutes of music
Must include two or more movements from Hartzell Sonatas D,E or F.
Run over allowed of 5 minutes.
Anything under 10 minutes or over 25 minutes (including breaks) will be disqualified.

Submissions should be in video format either on Youtube or similar platform (which must not require creating an account) or as a file on the submission page.
You may play additional music by any other composer providing it was written in or before the year of 1926. Individual movements are fine but not excerpts (e.g. bar1-40).
If desired you can bring material from round 1 forward to round 2. All submissions will receive feedback.
The competition is open to all ages, nationalities and genders.
